The Slovak President meets Sote Hub

Kenya welcomes His Excellency Andrej Kiska, President of the Slovak Republic. During his visit the Slovak President engaged not only in bilateral talks aimed to boost Slovak- Kenya cooperation, but also met with tech and start-up communities. As entrepreneur and philanthropist he showed a lot of interest in innovation and left a powerful message for all start-ups in Kenya.

Late in the evening people gathered for a reception at embassy of Slovak Republic in Nairobi where he seemed fascinated and excited in preparation of meeting start-ups the following day in iHub. This been his first ever visit to Kenya.

On the 15th February 2017, he was accompanied Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, and the Slovak of Ambassador Republic to Kenya Frantisek Dlhopolcek envoy among other guests.

The meeting in the iHub gave space to co-founders of the several organizations Kenya;

Andela; a community of building up world- class developers from Africa as the next generations of global technology leaders.

Akirachix; focuses on empowering girls from under privileged backgrounds equipping them with both business development techniques and life skills.

Sote Hub; an initiative that equips ICT training in hand with business skills in rural set up, funded the Slovak government. The presentation was further catalyzed with a short briefing of our own very start-up; Re-Africa a company that solves E-waste problem recycling them to functional electronic equipment.

The ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru went further to acknowledge the Kenya government work in skills development, online job creation and digital literacy.

After the tour in the ihub the President Kiska was escorted on a tour around Gear Box a design and rapid prototyping facility Kamau Gachigi, the facility`s Executive Director

The President gave a brief history of his journey to success which began at the age 27 in US, as student and a cleaner for one and a half year before returning back home. After years of successful entrepreneur, he founded an effective charity Good Angel that provides direct cash transfer to families with children suffering from cancer.

These develop his desire to take a bigger challenge of running for the highest seat as an independent candidate. With inspiration from Gandhi, he successfully made his transition from entrepreneurship and philanthropy to politics, eventually winning the Slovak presidential elections despite having 3% chance winning at one point.

During his speech, he mentioned Kenya as the best mobile banking in the world than any other country and also spearheaded the ability to fail and persevere and being ready to change even your lifestyle.
