GIZ Passion Fruit Farming Consultancy

Contracted by GIZ, E4D project, we are supporting the establishment of platforms, linkages, and relationships that will lead to sustained access to Business Development Services and markets for passion fruit produced by 2,400 smallholder farmers in Machakos, Embu, Lamu and Kwale counties in Kenya.

We are providing farmers with linkage to input service providers, extension service providers, financial service providers, and crop insurance services and facilitating networking sessions between farmer groups and Kevian, as well as alternative market players.

We also facilitated contractual engagements with Kevian Kenya Ltd and other identified off-takers and supporting the onboarding of farmer groups, input suppliers, financial & insurance service providers andoff-takers on a digital farmer platform.

Our plant has the capacity to process 100 Metric tons per day. We are ready to contract farmers, we are glad for the capacity building by Sote Hub because this will help in achieving our demand hence reducing the cost of sourcing the passion fruit from Neighboring countries, which is very expensive.

Our Impact

County governments are up taking the crop as a priority crop e.g. the County Government of Machakos, Masinga Subcounty has commited to giving dam liners to farmer groups. 30 farmers have benefited so far.
Coast Farm care Agrovet in Kwale has recorded a 60% increase in equiries on on-farm and visits after our linkage with farmers. Over 600 farmers have interacted with the supplier since our forums.
We have seen a risen in Interest in new farmers especially in Lamu where over 1500 new farmers have been mobilized.
Farmers now have information on the availability of BDS around their areas.
Over KES 16 Million in the pipeline in Lamu as over 20 farmers have engaged the Agricultural Finance Corporation.
